Oh Girl, Hold on...

Modnique Daily Fashion Deals

So I am loving daily deal sites right now and since I have been browsing fashion blogs over the past few weeks (my favorite is Penny Pincher Fashion) I have also become quite enamored with daily deal fashion sites.

One of the new ones that I found is Modnique. They offer designer and mid-range clothing, accessories, and shoes for women, men, and kids all at great deals! They work like Hautelook and offer sales for only a few days. Because they are hot deals the sales can sell out fast, but new sales begin each day so there is always something new to peruse on the site.

Today I spotted this cute button up shirt which is great on its own and would be a good layering piece as well. I love the subtle 70's throw-back checkered pattern. The shirt retails for $49 but is on sale at Modnique for only $25.

Also I'm loving these nude platform Chinese Laundry pumps. They are so versatile and subtly sexy. The shoes retail for $80 but Modnique has them for only $35.

I like to check out daily deal sites to spot deep sales and great gift ideas at reasonable prices. If you are interested in snagging a great deal sign up at Modnique and see what strikes your fancy!

Couponing Basics: Part IV: Coupon Matchups

Couponing is all about timing. Using coupons can save you money regardless of when you use them, but if you strategically shop then you will make the most of your coupons.

I used to clip out coupons and carry them around in my purse in an envelope. I would comparison shop at the grocery store but I felt that the generic store brand would cost just a few cents less than the name brand with the coupon. It felt like I wasn't really saving much.

Then I learned about how to really coupon. Wait for the sale, then pounce! Items will usually go on sale in three month cycles and in yearly cycles. So if you are patient you can wait until the item you need goes on sale and then pair it with a coupon for even deeper savings. And to maximize this strategy you can stock up on that sale item so that you will have enough of it to last you and your family through until the next sale.

How do you find those sales though?

Well, first, let's look at the seasonal sale cycles. Usually these work according to holidays and seasonal foods. In January lots of health foods will be on sale. In February and March it's frozen and canned foods. May through July have dairy on sale as well as BBQ foods and sports drinks. August and September are back to school time and lunch meats, chips, and snack foods are on sale. October-December have lots of candy and baking goods on sale, as well as other holiday foods. You can see the Krazy Coupon Lady post on sales cycles here.

Grocery stores will usually release new sale circulars/advertisements a few days before their sales begin and the sales usually run Wednesday - Tuesday. Drug stores usually run their sales Sunday - Saturday. If you subscribe to the newspaper you will probably get these sale circulars in your weekend paper along with the Smart Source, Red Plum, and Proctor & Gamble coupon inserts. You also may get the circular delivered to you during the week in another Red Plum advertising insert. If you really want to get the circular early you can go to your local grocery or drug store's website, such as www.safeway.com, www.riteaid.com, www.giantfood.com, www.cvs.com, as they will usually post the circular and sale items online.

Peruse the sale circlar to see what is on sale that week that you normally buy and what the best deals are. The first page will usually have the deepest discounts because these are "loss leaders", sales which the company loses money on that are designed to get customers in the door. When you see a sale item you are interested in flip to that section of your coupon binder to see if you have any coupons for that item. If you do then you've just scored yourself a deal! Determine how many of that item to get based on your number of coupons, your family's needs, and whether the sale + coupon makes it a stock-up price. Stock up prices are rock bottom prices at which you should purchase multiples to get the best deal. Remember, food prices vary from place to place so stock up prices vary.

In addition to making your own coupon matchups, I find that coupon blogs websites such as Krazy Coupon Lady, Money Saving Mom, Coupon Mom, Hip2Save, Living Rich With Coupons, I Am That Lady offer extensive matchups. These often work well for national chains but sometimes prices differ. Some local coupon blogs in the DC area are Beltway Bargain Mom, Moneywise Moms, Frugally Blonde, and Capitally Frugal. I also post coupon matchups here on Earning My Two Cents.

Coupon matchups will list, using coupon lingo, coupon matchups for the store's weekly deals. The matchup will include the specific product and size, the sale price, which coupon to use, and the final price. Sometimes there will be limits on the number of sale items you can buy and your store may limit the number of coupons you use per transaction, so make sure you know your store's coupon policy. Also, check out your store's website to see if the store has electronic coupons (eCoupons) which you can load onto your card. Safeway has great eCoupons on their website and has store coupons in addition to manufacturer coupons so there's no need to cut out the weekly sale coupon from the circular.

In addition to sales, look for ways that you can "stack" coupons. Coupon stacking is where you use a store coupon (issued by that particular store) in conjunction with a manufacturer coupon (issued by the product manufacturer) for a single item. This is the only time when you can use more than one coupon on a single item. The above photo is of a Safeway store coupon. The store coupon acts as a $1.00 off coupon on Tide or Tide Stain Release. This store coupon can be used in conjunction with a manufacturer coupon for Tide or Tide Stain release. So if you have a $3.00 off coupon for Tide, then you can stack it with the $1.00 store coupon and pay only $2.99 for Tide (rather than the $6.99 regular price). Read each store's coupon policy because different stores have different guidelines. Rite Aid, for example, allows you to stack manufacturer coupons with store coupons from their weekly advertising circulars, but also allows you to triple stack those coupons with Rite Aid video values coupons from the Rite Aid website. So that's three coupons on one item!

Matching up deals and pouncing when they are at rock bottom prices.....now you're couponing! Fandango and Target Gift Card Deal on Spreebird Today!

Do you like going to the movies? Do you shop at Target? Who doesn't?!

This week Spreebird has a deal for you! They are offering a voucher for 2 movie tickets on Fandango and a $10 gift card to Target for only $24! That's just the cost of the movie tickets so it's like getting the Target giftcard for free. Just a head's up though: the movie tickets voucher expires February 26, 2012. I know I will go to the movies before then but just keep it in mind. This deal will be available for purchase on Spreebird until December 26th (until it runs out) and if you purchase it before then you cannot use it until after the 26th.

Daily deal sites are one way that I like to save on movie tickets and places that I shop anyway. Daily deal sites like Spreebird, Groupon, and Living Social give you discounts that make it worth it to treat myself to a movie. In this case, you aren't saving anything on the cost of the Fandango tickets but you are getting a $10 gift card to Target for free! And why am I excited about this? Because Target sells groceries and they also issue their own coupons which can be stacked with manufaturer coupons so I can make that $10 go far.

Click here to take advantage of this deal. Don't worry if you don't see your city on the list for local deals. Just select a city and you will see the Fandango deal. Spreebird only covers a short list of cities inclding Chicago, Los Angeles, San Diego but they also offer national deals that you can use anywhere or online. So select any city and you should see the Fandango/Target deal.

Another great thing about Spreebird is that they donate 10% of their sales to local schools and non-profits. You can even choose the school or non-profit in your area that your sales proceeds go to. Way to pay it forward!

Here's the fine print:
-Available for purchase until December 26, 2011 (or until it runs out of stock)
-Cannot use before December 27, 2011
-Fandango promo codes expire February 26, 2012
-Not valid on IMAX movies
-Must use both Fandango vouchers at the same time for the same show
-Target Gift Card will be mailed to you

What will you see with your Fandango tickets? I'm thinking Mission: Impossible, Ghost Protocol. Sweet! I love a good spy movie. You can like the movie on Facebook for more trailers.

Old Navy Groupon Today!

One of the best things about the holidays are the post-holiday sales! And today's Groupon is an even better way to take advantage of those post-holiday sales!

Today through December 24th Groupon is offering a $20 voucher to Old Navy for only $10! The voucher can be used as early as tomorrow, December 22, through January 28, 2012. This is perfect for a last minute gift or for those post holiday sales. The voucher can be used in-store only and cannot be combined with other offers or Rewards Card. The $10 you paid for doesn't expire but the extra $10 that comes with the Groupon expires on January 28th.

This deal may not show up on everyone's local Groupon page. It's not on the DC page, but I found it on the Athens, Georgia page. So just go to the top and change your location. You can use the voucher at any Old Navy location in the US.

If you are interested I would suggest jumping on this deal right away because quantities are limited. If you're not a member of Groupon, you can sign up for free here. Groupon is the original and most popular daily deal site that offers local and national deals for restaurants, events, outings, spa treatments, and all kinds of lovely experiences and products, all at amazing discounts (up to 70% off!). I have purchased and used many Groupons and have always been pleased with them.

And the cherry on top of this deal is that if you purchase it through Memolink you can get 80 points per dollar spent at Groupon! That's 800 points closer to a gift card from your favorite store! Don't know what Memolink is? You can read my review here.

Go Green and Earn Rewards with Recyclebank

As long as I can remember, I have been interested in recycling and trying to be environmentally friendly. I remember encouraging my folks to recycle as a child even. Today's green revolution has encouraged many people to also think about their impact on the planet, and many companies are jumping on the green bandwagon to make more eco-friendly peoducts or give to eco-causes because their customers like that and it helps the brand to improve their image.

That's where Recyclebank comes in. Recyclebank is a website that partners with Live Green and many large and well known companies (like Kashi, Unilever, Coca Cola) to bring people helpful information on living green and reward them with points for their actions.

Recyclebank is free to join and shares tips and information on recycling, living green, and general environmental awareness. The company gives you points for making pledges to recycle or use less gift wrap, watching videos, taking quizzes, and reading articles. Then you can redeem those points for discounts at online and in-store retailers, gift cards, coupons, and other products. Points add up quickly and the company ships your reward to you right away.

Just today I redeemed two coupons to Shoppers Food Warehouse for $5 off a $25 purchase. They were only 50 points each and I earned those points in just about 15 minutes of clicking around on the site, so it's really easy. Those coupons are an extra $10 i'm saving off of my grocery bill this month that can now go to paying down debt. Yay! I love saving money and Recyclebank makes it easy to earn points to redeem for coupons and other money-saving items.

Great Deals on Gifts for Others (or Yourself!) at Hautelook

This holiday season, I have done a lot of holiday gift shopping using daily deals sites. You can snag great products and at low prices, and who doesn't love that?

One of my favorite sites that I recently happened upon is Hautelook. They have great deals on designer handbags, shoes, jewelry, clothes for men, women, and children, makeup, homegoods, and even trips! They also have hassle free returns and responsive customer service.

I recently snagged these great flats which will go with everything for just $69 and they normally retail for $180. They are leather too so they will hopefully last a while. I'm so excited to get them! Merry Christmas to me!
If you want to get some great Hautelook deals you can sign up here. Happy shopping!

How I'm Saving Today

This week has been crazy busy since it's the end of the semester for me and I have two papers due in just a few days, so I have been busy with grad school work and will be cozying up with my laptop this weekend to get these papers written. Speaking of school, another way I am saving is by getting my textbooks from the library when possible. I have been lucky this semester and was able to find my books at the library so I saved there! Also this week I snagged some free deals at CVS using rain checks from black friday and ate all my meals at home (or brought them from home). Since it's the beginning of the month I will review my bills and debts and see what progress I have made in the last month. I completed a couple of mystery shops this week as well so that'll be a bit more moolah in my pocket. How are you saving today?

Frederic Fekkai Shampoo & Conditioner Review

I am a BzzAgent and as such I am sometimes sent products to test and review. If you don't know what BzzAgent is check out my review here.
I was thrilled when a box arrived last month with full size bottles of Frederic Fekkai Shampoo and Conditioner for me to try!

I am a girly girl at heart and love trying new beauty products so I excitedly popped these open.

Here's the verdict:

I was sent the Glossing Shampoo & Conditioner which did exactly what they say they will do: they made my hair shiny and super healthy looking. The shampoo and conditioner are made with real olive oil so they make the hair shiny and healthy by improving the quality of the hair, not by covering the hair shaft in silicone like some other glossing products do. These are conditioning so they are a bit heavy for my oily hair, but I solved this by only conditioning the ends of my hair, leaving my scalp alon so my hair doesn't get flat.

My hair was really soft. I didn't expect this but the Glossing Shampoo & Conditioner made my hair so touchable and soft, I just wanted to pet myself. Even during the day it was soft and stayed untangled.

The Glossing Shampoo & Conditioner rinsed out cleanly and smelled great. They don't have a heavy perfume-y smell and have a soft pleasant scent instead.

This is a salon line by renowned stylist Frederic Fekkai and you can buy it in salons, online at the Fekkai website, and at specialty retailers like Ulta, but it's also in drugstores. I think that it's great that this line is available in drugstores so I can use my Rite Aid +Ups or CVS ExtraBucks to pay for them! The bottles retail at $21 for 8oz or $35 for 16oz. Now, that is more expensive than I usually would pay but you don't use much and it will last. I think that the products are definitely worth a try because any beauty product that works for you and keeps your hair healthy, shiny, and soft is one you want to have around.

How I'm Saving Today

I did some sale-rack early Christmas shopping as I perused the sale racks at Ann Taylor Loft and found some great gifts for my sister (and a dress for myself). I got them all at a great price and I really think that my sister will love the gifts. I'll be honest and say that the dress wasn't in my budget and was a definite impulse buy but luckily I am so frugal that $30 is considered a splurge (on sale from $90 I might add) and I have already worn it twice so I think it was worth it. Also, I did a mystery shop this week and had a very nice dinner with my husband which we will get paid $15 for! I did some minimal grocery shopping this weekend to get some great stock up deals and fixins for the turkey I made this weekend, but it was less than $25. To top off the week I got a red light camera ticket so I guess that this was not much of a saving week. I tried to be frugal about my purchases, didn't eat out, and did a mystery shop, but the unexpected ticket is a budget buster. Better luck next week I hope!

Cash in My Mailbox: Ebates

Aww Yeah! I love cash in my mailbox! Well, not cash per se. A check actually. It's safer to send in the mail that way.

Where did I get this check from? The magical check fairy? Nope. Ebates!

My favorite cash back site is Ebates. Just log onto the Ebates site, find the participating store you are shopping at, and click the Ebates link to get to the site. Then shop as normal and you will automatically get up to 25% back on your purchase, though most stores average about 5% cash back. They even have some promotions where you can get double cash back. Sign up through the link below and get $5 automatically as a signup bonus! Ebates works with a long list of well known companies so you will likely find the store you are looking for. Additionally, they also include promotion codes which you can you at online stores in addition to getting cash back through Ebates. Your cash back is based on the price you pay after the promotion code.

I personally have been paid a few times by Ebates for my online shopping. They send you a check every three months automatically and there is no minimum that you have to accrue before they send you your money. Today's check in the mail was for $8.42 but every little bit helps! With my first purchase Ebates also sent me a $10 gift card to Target as my signup bonus and this is still available so jump on it!

I have tallied up all the money I have made so far this year from small checks like this Ebates one and so far I have made $346.53 since June! Those small amounts earned from online surveys, cash back shopping, and sending in rebates really add up! Take that debt!

Saveology Deal: Get 2 Movie Tickets at Fandango for $12!

I love going to the movies but I hate paying $10 for a movie ticket, or $11.50 each if you use Fandango (including the processing fee). But I love getting half price deals for movie tickets from daily deal sites! This is a great way to enjoy going to the movies and not busting your budget.

Today Saveology is running a deal for 2 movie tickets from Fandango (a $24 value) for just $12! You can score the deal here.

Here's the fine print:

Limit 2 deals per household
Promo codes to Fandango expire 1/14/12
Excludes IMAX movies

Looks like 3D movies are not excluded so this is a great way to get those super-expensive 3D movie tickets on the cheap! The voucher will give you a $12 credit toward your movie ticket so those $14.50 3D tickets will only be $2.50 extra (or $8.50 including the cost of the voucher).

Your voucher will be emailed to you the day after you buy it online.

Hurry! This deal ends at 1am EST 11/15/11.

Couponing Basics: Part III: Organization is Key

Organization is key for couponers. If you can't find the coupon you need, then its worthless. There are a few methods of coupon organization out there but my preferred method is using a coupon binder divided by sections.

Coupon binders are easy to make, easy to use, and work well to organize coupons you get from sources other than newspaper inserts. The binder is divided by sections according to grocery aisles, types of products, etc. The binder can be carried with you to the store which allows you to take advantage of deals on the fly. The other popular method for coupon organization is by organizing whole inserts from the newspaper by date and clipping only those coupons which you need for your shopping trip. You can find more info on the whole insert organization method here.

I use the categories which are on the Krazy Coupon Lady website here. I printed out the sheets and put them in plastic sleeves, then put those sleeves into a standard three ring binder. Then I got trading card plastic sleeves (pictured below) and put them into the binder to hold and organize my coupons. To make it easy to flip to the right category, I put plastic label tabs on the divider sheets and organized the sections into the approxmate order in which I walk down the aisles at my local Safeway.

Yes, I take my binder to the store with me. It is easy to sift through my binder to find the coupons I need and I have some extra plastic sleeves in the front to hold stock up prices, a pen, and the coupons I am using for my purchase. I also keep store policies at the back of my binder. These store policies are useful to have on hand in case the clerk does not want to take your coupons or is not well versed in the store's coupon policy.

Check back next week and I'll discuss how to strategically shop with coupons to get rock bottom prices!

Get Designer Fashions and Accessories on HauteLook for up to 75% off!

I am broke. And need new boots. Seriously, my taupe flat boots that I bought from Old Navy a few years ago and I *love* have a hole in the toe and the sole is wearing out. Sigh. So I started poking around online for boots that were comparable but of better quality, leather preferably, so they last longer. But I really didn't want to spend a lot either. What's the answer to getting high quality boots for a low price? Hautelook!

Hautelook is a deals site that offers designer fashion, accessories, beauty, and home products for women, men, and kids at up to 75% off. The sales last only a few days and the site is free to join! This is a fantastic way to get great gifts on the cheap as well as get designer clothes for non-designer prices. And, unlike many daily deal sites, they allow returns for credit or a full refund. To sign up click here .

To sweeten the deal, PlumDistrict is offering a voucher for $50 worth of goods at Hautelook for just $25! Combine that with the 10% off PlumDistrict promo code "fabulous" and it's only $22.50! PlumDistrict is a daily deal site geared toward moms that offers daily local and national deals for kids, women, and home. I am not a mom but I have already bought three deals from them for home goods from One Kings Lane and beauty products from Bloom. It's free to sign up and you can get a free $5 credit using this link.

I took full advantage of the Plum District deal and snagged these glorious Report leather boots on Hautelook for just $38 including shipping! You can get some great deals too but hurry because the Plum District deal is only good for 4 more days and the sales on Hautelook change every few days and quantities are limited. The Report boot sale ends tomorrow but there are plenty of other sales available.

How I'm Saving Today

Well, this week I have not saved a lot. I have actually spent a lot.

So how does that count for a blog entry on how I'm saving today? Well, what I have been spending on has been bills and debts. Because I got paid three times in September and I budget a month ahead, I realized that I had an extra paycheck! So, after checking and double checking that it was indeed an extra check (I use two paychecks per month's bills and because there are more than 24 paychecks each year there will be an extra check once a year), I re-allocated the money into my budget for bills and debts that we needed to pay.

This came just in time too because our dog had two trips to the vet in the last week because he unexpectedly got sick and we ended up spending almost $800 for the emergency vet appointment, xrays, blood work, regular vet appointment, and his standard vaccines (which he was due for). Ugh. So we were really grateful to have the extra money. Also, we are really glad to have pet insurance which will reimburse us for a large chunk of these vet costs. We have had VPI for a number of years and the reimbursements for standard vet appointments and medicines alone pay for the monthly premium. So if you don't have pet insurance I would recommend it because the peace of mind far outweighs the minimal costs. We were glad we didn't have to think twice about whether to take our dog to the emergency vet or whether the vet should do an xray (which costs $100 alone!).

With the rest of the money not spent on vet bills, we have paid some human medical bills which have been sitting on the mail table wondering how they were going to get paid, as well as paid an extra payment to the credit card. We also socked away a little bit more into our savings account for our trip next year out to California for my sister and her fiance's wedding. How I'm saving today is to be responsible with extra money and pay bills and our savings account first, rather than blow a chunk on new shoes or a fancy dinner and still have to pay more interest on our debt later.

How are you saving today? Post a comment below!

Burt's Bees Natural Skin Solutions for Sensitive Skin

I am a BzzAgent and, as such, I am sent products to honestly review. I recently received from BzzAgent two products from Burt's Bees' new Sensitive Skin line to try out and they are so superb that I thought I would share my review with you all!

The Burt's Bees Sensitive Facial Cleanser has everything I want in a sensitive skin face wash. It is creamy, fragrance free, soap-free, 99% natural, in a recyclable bottle, and has calming ingredients like cotton to help to protect my skin from irritations and aloe to soothe it. The cleanser leaves my skin feeling soft, clean, and moisturized. I have oily skin and this cleanser cleaned me right up without over-drying or over-moisturizing. In fact, my skin actually improved after using this cleanser for a few weeks and I had fewer breakouts and whiteheads along with smooth and fresh skin. From a cost saving perspective, the cleanser comes in a big 6oz bottle which will last for months and only costs $10. It is available on the Burt's Bees website as well as at drugstores. Target even has store coupons on their website this month for Burt's Bees Sensitive Solutions products which you can stack with a $2 off coupon on Burt's Bees' facebook page!

The Burt's Bees Sensitive Daily Moisturizer also contains all the soothing natural qualities of the cleanser. It is fragrance free, 99% natural, and has cotton extract to protect and soften my skin. It is a light daily moisturizer which my oily skin prefers but it still moisturizes thouroughly and absorbs quickly. The only drawback to this moisturizer is that it doesn't have sunscreen in it which I really prefer to have in my daily moisturizer as an added protection for my fair skin. The moisturizer comes in a 1.8oz container which seems small but you really don't need much more than a pea sized amount. It retails for $15 on the Burt's Bees website and is also available at drugstores nationwide.

I hope you like natural products as much as I do because that is the added perk about Burt's Bees products. The company does not test on animals, uses natural and eco-friendly ingredients, uses packaging made of recyclable or post-consumer recycled ingredients, protects the bees that pollinate our crops from Colony Collapse Disorder, and is a general, all-around great company which I am proud to support by purchasing their products.
